Magazine vision

Material supports for people with disabilities are currently under attack, alongside the rise of negative ideas about people with disabilities globally. We know we are not budget deficits, nor burdens on society; we are a strong collective of individuals with a wealth of experience to be celebrated. So often we are told to limit our dreams to the few supports available to us. When support is cut, it can limit what we are able to hope for. Despite this, we see countless people with disabilities pursuing their dreams, hobbies and joys in life, fighting for a better world and coming together to support one another in community. We see people sharing moments of creativity, fun, and play.

As people with disabilities, we often have to advocate for ourselves in medical appointments and in our daily relationships. While there can be grief in the fact that we are often forced to be strong advocates, we can also be confident in our collective expertise and know that together we can defend our rights to access supports.

This issue of Chronic Mischief invites you to explore the complex feelings of grief and anger that might call us to take action, to dissent, during what can be infuriating times. It’s also about celebrating ourselves, our joy, the disability community, and the pride we get to have in our collective strength. Most of all, it’s a space to share whatever you want, in your own way.

WWDACT’s aim in producing this publication is to provide a space for women, non-binary and gender diverse people with disabilities to have their works celebrated and have their stories told and heard. The magazine is for you and by you. Chronic Mischief Issue no. 2 will be edited by the WWDACT engagement team and published by WWDACT. Alongside this, WWDACT will be hosting a Magazine launch event to celebrate the amazing people in our community.
