We are seeking a Community Engagement Officer!
Women with Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) is looking for an enthusiastic and driven Community Engagement Officer to join our team.
About WWDACT:
Women With Disabilities ACT (WWDACT). WWDACT is a systemic advocacy and peer support organisation for women, girls, non-binary and feminine identifying people with disabilities in the ACT and region. WWDACT follows a human rights philosophy, based on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). WWDACT is a Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO), governed by women with disabilities, and its proposals and recommendations to government are consistent with Article 4(3), and Article 29 of CRPD.
Our work includes a diverse range of activities such as community consultations, social events, educational workshops, research, submissions to government, interstate project collaborations and community representation. Our membership is free to all women, girls, non-binary and feminine identifying people with disability in the ACT region.
The Role:
The Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for:
- Running engagement activities and events with the WWDACT community.
- Coordinating the WWDACT Representatives program.
- Gathering knowledge from the community to inform WWDACT of emerging issues in the ACT.
- Collaborating with the CEO on policy submissions.
- Assist in maintaining WWDACT Facebook and discussion group.
- Identifying grant opportunities and helping to write applications.
- Supporting reporting to funders.
The Community Engagement Officer will collaborate with, and report to, the Chief Executive Officer. This is a 12-week contract for 18 hours a week, based in our Canberra City office. Extension of this contract is subject to funding arrangements.

About You:
This role will be suited to someone experienced in community event management, community development, social work or similar areas. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator with a passion for social justice. Experience working with people with disabilities, women, and other diverse groups is desirable.
A current Australian Drivers licence and vehicle are highly desirable for this role. A current working with vulnerable people card and/or police check is essential.
