Message from the Chair
Dear Members and colleagues,
WWDACT warmly welcomes Ajar Sana, our new Community Engagement Officer. She will be working at the WWDACT office with Clare. More details are on the Board/Staff page on our website. Aji honed her leadership in disability advocacy during her time with the Disabilities Students Association (DSA) at the ANU. You will be able to meet Aji at our next Social Drop-in.
ABC Local Radio drew WWDACT attention to the fact that Thursday 16 May was Global Accessibility Awareness Day. In the past, WWDACT has undertaken national action research into the Digital Divide. Access to Information and Communication Technologies is essential. It is as important a utility as water, electricity and gas. Websites must be fully accessible. Information must be in plain English. Mobile phones all have inbuilt accessibility features. You can compare and contrast them by going to the Accessible Telecoms website on the IDEAS website. Have a browse around IDEAS while you are there. It is the most comprehensive and responsive information source on disability matters that I know of. Worth a look.
Regards,
Sue Salthouse
