Message from the Chair

Dear Members and Colleagues, 

Welcome to another e-bulletin from WWDACT in Isolation. Like you, our staff and board are all working from home, seemingly surrounded by cuddly cats, snuggling dogs, and the occasional rabbit, and of course, partners and children of all ages and stages. Some degree of isolation is going to have to continue for some time. It is reassuring to look at the dashboard and see that the ACT has a 95% recovery rate with just two new diagnoses on 25 April, after a zero-case gap of seven days. Our sympathies go out to the family and friends of the three who have lost their lives to Covid-19 in the ACT. Those wishes are extended to those who have been affected by losses anywhere in the world.

As the days of isolation continue, we need to focus especially on our mental health and wellbeing. The Federal Department of Health agrees. Their website reminds us to make our mental health a priority. And their recipe for doing this is to “eat well, stay active, stay in touch and seek help if needed.”

Eat well – make use of the home delivery services offered by the supermarkets, use your NDIS code if appropriate. If you have to go to the supermarket remember to sanitise or wash hands frequently. And then share photos of what you are cooking on the WWDACT Facebook page this week.

Stay active – a daily walk is therapeutic, an online yoga class (many are free), do a mobile exercise class using every room in the house.

Stay in touch – join the weekly WWDACT social drop-in at 1pm on Saturdays. The link is on our facebook page. Women tune in from their cars, hospital and the bathroom. No space if sacrosanct.

Seek help if you need it – 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732), Lifeline (13 11 14), Domestic Violence Crisis Service (6280 0900) all have 24/7 help lines, and online chats.
