Message from the Chair

Dear Members and Friends,

WWDACT is looking forward to catching up with members, colleagues and supporters at our early I-Day Event. Reflections on the Mirrorball will be held at East Hotel (corner of Canberra Avenue and Giles St, Kingston). We will start the evening at 6pm with a screening of the 2011 Canberra film Mirrorball, which features many of our friends from the disability community. This will be followed by a panel discussion about safe relationships and sexuality for people with disabilities. After a break with refreshments, we will adjourn with coffee to conduct our AGM from 1945 to 2000. Tickets are still available from Eventbrite.

WWDACT is also pleased to be hosting an inaugural variety show for young people with disabilities called ‘Pitch Your Passion’. This event will take place in mid-March next year and is an opportunity for young people with a disability or mental health condition (aged 16 to 25) to speak about something they are passionate about or perform for up to five minutes. Expressions of interest close at 5pm on 30 November. For this one you need to visit our website and fill in an expression of interest as either a performer or a speaker. Like Triple J ‘Unearthed’ festivals, this event is going to be the start of something big! Speakers can choose any topic where they have something to say. Performances can be in any genre. Please spread the word to young people with disabilities that you know.

Regards,
Sue Salthouse
