Message from the Acting Chair

Dear Members and colleagues

Welcome to our final newsletter for 2020. It has been a long, difficult, heart breaking year for many of us, and I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping the Christmas period  brings some respite and opportunities to relax and recharge. The newsletter will be back in February 2021.

Last week was the International Day of People with Disability, and the theme this year was Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World. This theme is timely, with the pandemic uncovering many instances where inclusion and access are still not a reality for disabled people in Australia and around the world. Listening to the experiences and expertise of people with disabilities will be vital if we are to actually Build Back Better from the pandemic.

Before we finish up for the year though, please join the WWDACT Board and staff members for our AGM on Tuesday 22 December 2020 from 5.30pm-7pm. Due to the ongoing pandemic we are conducting the AGM via Zoom. Auslan interpretation will be available, and if you have other accessibility requirements please advise us at ceo@wwdact.org.au by cob 9 December 2020.

Nominations are also now open for a number of Board vacancies, and we would be delighted to have members nominate for these positions and join the Board. Nominations can be made by completing and emailing this form to ceo@wwdact.org.au by cob Wednesday 9 December 2020.

If you’re interested in finding out more about what it means to be on the Board, you can contact me at chair@wwdact.org.au

The Board and staff join me in wishing you a safe and happy festive season.

Kerry Marshall
