Message from the CEO

Dear WWDACT Members and Friends,

I was devastated on Monday night to learn of the death of WWDACT Chair and my mentor, Sue Salthouse. Sue always wrote these messages for our e-Bulletins, sharing her insight and calls to action on the news of the week, whether grim or bright. Her wisdom and passion guided us forward, suggesting action even when the news was overwhelming.

Sue was a leader, a mentor, and a champion for women with disabilities. She was an inaugural board member of WWDACT and served as our Chair for many years and was previously president of Women with Disabilities Australia. Sue was also an Our Watch Ambassador, member of the NDIS Independent Advisory Council, director of Rights and Inclusion Australia and Women in Adult and Vocational Education and more. Sue had won numerous awards for her work, including 2015 Canberra Citizen of the Year and the 2020 ACT Senior Australian of the Year.

The messages we have seen on social media have told the story of an amazing advocate and mentor who was so loved by her community. Words like “respected”, “strong”, “champion for women”, “powerhouse”, “tireless advocate” and more have been used to tell the story of hundreds of lives touched by Sue’s light. All of us can carry that light forward and continue Sue’s legacy.

My heart goes out to her family at this time.

Rest in Power, Sue.

C Moore
