Women With Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) would like to thank the ACT Office for Women and Minister Yvette Berry for awarding former Board Chair Sue Salthouse a Special Posthumous Commendation at last night’s ACT Women’s Awards. “Sue was a powerful advocate, whose work affected thousands of women and girls across the nation. Her commendation tonight was well deserved.” said Kat Reed, Chief Executive Officer, WWDACT.
Sue was a fierce advocate for women and girls with disability for over 25 years. She showed an unwavering commitment to promoting inclusivity both locally and nationally, through her many roles in organisations across the country. More notably, Sue was a mentor who built the confidence and skills of countless women with disabilities to become powerful advocates in their own right.
As elegantly put by close friends and fellow advocates Christina Ryan and Caroline Frohmader, “Sue leaves an extensive network of women with disabilities who now carry the work forward that she was a part of. She never saw herself as working alone, or being the only one, or the catalyst. Sue was a master collaborator who drew people around her to work together on addressing the issues she was passionate about.”
“There is not a day that goes past that I do not interact with an organisation or an individual that was impacted by Sue’s commitment, passion and her legacy” said Mx Reed.
Sue’s dedication, passion and generosity has made WWDACT what it is today. WWDACT is proud that we will always be part of her legacy.
