Dear WWDACT Members, Supporters and Community,
Women with Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) is aware of recent media reports regarding a prominent local disability advocate. Like many across the disability community and sector, we are shocked and deeply concerned the impact this news may have on our community, people with disability, their families, carers, advocates and supporters.
We recognise that reports of this nature can be distressing and may trigger feelings of fear, anger, uncertainty or past trauma. Our thoughts are with everyone who may be affected.
As an organisation led by and for women and gender diverse people with disabilities, WWDACT remains unwavering in its commitment to safety, human rights, respect and inclusion. We believe all people have the right to live free from violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination.
We acknowledge that investigations are currently underway. It is important that due process is respected, and for this reason WWDACT will not be making any further comment on the matter at this time.
