    Share your experience – Disability and Sexual Health

    What is the project?

    Women with Disabilities ACT is working with Women’s Health Matters to do a scoping study of sexual health services for women and gender diverse people with disabilities.

    The scoping study will look at:

    • Clinical services
    • Sexual health information
    • Sexual health education

    We will write a report with recommendations to the ACT Government. This report will help to inform sexual health service pilot programs for women and gender diverse people with disabilities in the ACT.

    We have received funding from the ACT Government Health and Community Services Directorate to do this study.

    How can you get involved?

    We are looking to hear from women, non-binary and gender diverse people with disabilities who are over the age of 18. We would also like to hear from you if you care for a woman, non-binary or gender diverse person with disabilities over the age of 18. We want to hear about your experiences accessing (or trying to access) clinical services, sexual health information and sexual health education in the ACT.

    We will be running lots of different kinds of consultations. These will include:

    • In-person group consultations
    • Online group consultations
    • One-on-one interviews

    If you don’t want to take part in a consultation, we also have an option for an online survey.

    What will we ask in the consultation?

    You can view the consultation questions at the attachment below. We may update these questions.

    We will send the questions to you directly before the consultation.

    Payment

    If you participate in an interview, or a group consultation, you will be paid $100 for your time.

    If you fill out the survey, you will not receive payment as the survey is anonymous.

    However, you will have the opportunity to be contacted by us for further paid consultation opportunities. This is optional.

    Apply for the Lived Experience Panel – Sexual Health Project

    WWDACT is looking for 5 women and gender diverse people with disabilities to join a new Lived Experience Panel. The Panel is part of a new project WWDACT is doing with Women’s Health Matters to scope sexual health, information and education services available to women with disabilities in the ACT.

    Who is eligible to be on the panel?

    To be on the Panel you must be:

    • A woman, non-binary and/or gender diverse person
    • A person with disabilities / disabled person
    • Living, studying, working or accessing health services in the ACT
    • 18 years or older

    The Panel is open to anyone who identifies as a person with disabilities or disabled person. You do not need a diagnosis in order to be eligible for the Panel.

    We try to ensure our Panel represents a diverse range of experiences. Everybody is welcome to apply! However, we especially encourage applications from the following groups:

    • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
    • Older person
    • Person with an intellectual disability
    • LGBTQIA+
    • Transgender, non-binary and/or gender diverse
    • Culturally and linguistically diverse and/or a Person of Colour
    • Detainee
    • Unpaid carer
    • Temporary visa / asylum seeker

    What does the Panel do?

    The Lived Experience Panel will give accountability and advice to the project team that is conducting the project. The Panel will ensure that oversight of the project has input from people with disabilities.

    If you are on the panel we may ask you to share your experience of:

    • Attempting to access sexual health services in the ACT
    • Attempting to access sexual health information and/or education in the ACT

    Members of the Lived Experience Panel may be asked to:

    • Review our proposed consultation and scoping approach
    • Give feedback on our approach to consultation to ensure we are reflecting the diverse needs and priorities of the disability community
    • Give feedback on our consultation findings and the themes we identified
    • Give feedback on the draft report and recommendations

    You don’t have to have experience or extensive knowledge in order to apply! We will support you to give feedback on the project.

    How do we choose our members?

    We will aim to maintain a diverse range of lived experience on the Panel. This includes people with different disabilities or disability types, and different intersecting identities.

    In the application, we will ask you about your knowledge of and experience accessing sexual health information and services. You don’t need to have any specific experience to be eligible to apply.

    Administration information

    The Panel will meet 2-3 times, once in March 2026, once in July 2026, and possibly in August 2026. These timeframes are subject to change.

    We meet online over Zoom. Automatic closed captioning and transcripts are provided. A meeting agenda and papers will be provided at least a week before each meeting, and minutes will be shared within 2 weeks after the meetings.

    We will do our best to meet other access needs – please let us know what would help you participate.

    Panel members are remunerated $250 per session, in the form of an invoice or gift card.

    Women with Disabilities ACT (WWDACT) is more than a year through delivering the Our Autonomy Project, which is funded until 2027. It is being run by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities to build skills, knowledge, confidence and community.

    Our Autonomy includes 3 parts:

    1. Peer social events
    2. Information and skill building workshops
    3. Publishing a yearly magazine

    This survey is for you if you’re a woman or non-binary person with disabilities who wants to come to our events in 2026! You can complete the survey even if you haven’t attended a WWDACT event yet.

    We want your help to choose our events and activities, so they will suit you!
    This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

    Survey: Shaping Foundational Supports – Your Voice Matters

    The Australian Government is exploring a new system of disability supports called “Foundational Supports”.

    These supports will be available outside the NDIS, and they aim to fill the gaps in existing services for people who may not be eligible for the NDIS.

    Why Foundational Supports Matter

    Foundational supports are vital because they ensure that everyone in the disability community has access to the help they need.

    Support will cover essential areas like:

    • Daily Living: Assistance with everyday tasks and activities.
    • Community Access: Support to participate fully in your community.
    • Skill Development: Opportunities to learn and grow.
